• In a March 19 letter to the members of the House Select Committee on Federal Economic Stabilization Funding, the Texas Conservative Coalition urged committee members to use "stimulus" funds to support one-time education related expenses. Recommendations for one-time education expenditures included funding for instructional materials, virtual school networks (VSN) and professional development programs.
  • As violence along the Texas-Mexico border rises the need for increased border security funding becomes imperative.  In a letter on March 19, the Texas Conservative Coalition urged Appropriations Committee members to provide additional funding for border security operations.
  • In a letter to Chairman Polunsky the TCC applauds the Texas Public Safety Commission for adopting 37 T.A.C. § 15.171. By verifying the citizenship and legal residency status of those who apply for a Texas Drivers License, the Public Safety Commission has taken important steps toward combating the growing fiscal and social costs of illegal immigration and protecting homeland security.
  • In a letter to the Texas Congressional Delegation, TCC members support protecting "the ability of American workers to choose whether or not to unionize through federally-supervised secret ballot elections." TCCRI Board Member Tommy Williams has filed SB 1430 to maintain the secret balloting in Texas to protect workers from intimidation by union organizers.
  • Following Governor Perry's press conference rejecting federal stimulus funds for Unemployment Insurance, the board and members of the Texas Conservative Coalition write to express their support of the rejection and agree it is a bad deal for Texas.  We must not be held hostage by the federal government.  As Gov. Perry mentioned, we have assisted Texans who have lost their jobs in the past and will continue to do so, but we will not be forced to expand our government programs at the will of the federal government.
  • Purchasing instructional materials for public schools, including textbooks and technology items, is a fiscally responsible, one-time use of federal stimulus that takes pressure off of making expenditures from the Rainy Day Fund.
  • Property, be it a home, business, farm, or ranch, is at the root of economic prosperity.  Yet even as banks, auto manufacturers, and other private businesses are bailed-out, exorbitant property taxes continue to deprive families and business owners of their basic property rights and increase the burden of running a business or owning a home.
  • Economic recovery efforts must be rooted in responsible budgeting and limited taxation to allow workers and businesses to grow and strengthen the Texas economy. On February 11, 2009, the TCC Board of Directors circulated this letter to members to organize conservatives around five priority action items to bolster the Texas economy.
  • Americans are paying a terrible price for poor decision-making in Washington D.C. and lack of responsibility on Wall Street. Job creation must be the top priority for the 81st Legislature. Especially in these tough economic times, it is imperative that the Texas Legislature enact sound fiscal policies to help keep our economy strong and growing.
  • The State Board of Education considered revisions to the Texas cirriculum standards related to the teaching of evolution so that weaknesses in the theory would no longer be taught. The Texas Conservative Coalition issued this letter in support for the State Board of Education's efforts to revise the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science, and requested that evolution continue to be taught as a theory that has strengths and weaknesses.
